Thrive Quiz Builder allows you to make your quizzes more engaging by adding audio questions. This guide will walk you through the process of adding audio questions to your quizzes, from setting up the question to configuring the answers.
Getting Started
Before you can add an audio question, you need to have a quiz set up in Thrive Quiz Builder. If you haven’t created a quiz yet, please refer to our guide on how to create a quiz before proceeding.
Once you have a quiz ready, follow these steps to add an audio question:
- From your Thrive Quiz Builder dashboard, open the quiz you want to edit and click on the Manage button in the questions card.
- In the questions editor, click the Add Question button in the upper-left corner.
- A pop-up will appear with the available question types. You can choose from Multiple Choice with Buttons, Multiple Choice with Images, or Open Ended Questions. This selection determines how users will answer the audio question. After selecting the answer type, click Continue.
Adding the Audio Question
After you click Continue, you will see the “Add Question” pop-up. By default, the question type is set to “Text Question.” To change this to an audio question, follow these steps:
- Click the down arrow next to “Text Question” to open a drop-down menu.
- Select Audio Question from the list.
- You will now see options to add your audio file. You can choose from three sources: Custom, Spotify, or SoundCloud.
Audio Source Options
Here is a breakdown of the different audio source options and how to configure them:

| SoundCloud | Use an audio track from SoundCloud. | 1. Enter the SoundCloud URL of the audio track in the URL field. 2. Click outside the field or press Enter to add the audio. |
Advanced Audio Options
Each audio source has advanced options to customize the playback experience. You can access these by clicking the down arrow next to Audio Options in the “Advanced” section.

| Custom | Autoplay | The audio will start playing automatically when a user reaches the question. |
| Loop | The audio will play on a continuous loop until stopped. | |
| Spotify | Autoplay | The audio will start playing automatically when a user reaches the question. |
| SoundCloud | Autoplay | The audio will start playing automatically when a user reaches the question. |
| Do not show artwork | The artwork associated with the audio file will not be displayed. | |
| Do not show the user | The name of the audio file’s author will not be shown. |
Note: For Spotify audio, users who are logged in to Spotify will be able to listen to the entire track. If they are not logged in, they will only hear a short preview.
Adding Question Text and Answers
After adding your audio file, you need to add the question text and set up the answers:
- In the Question text field, enter the text for your audio question.
- Optionally, you can add a more detailed description in the Add Description field.
- Next, set up the answers for your question. You can add one or more answers and associate them with a category, points, or correctness, depending on your quiz type. You can also use the Weight, Tags, and Feedback options to further customize your answers.

Saving Your Question
Once you have finished setting up your audio question and answers, click the Save button at the bottom of the pop-up.
Your audio question is now added to your quiz. You can add more questions or click Save & Exit to return to the Quiz Builder dashboard.
