Linking Thrive Apprentice to External Checkout or Sales Page Using Custom Payment Links

Do you want to implement custom payment links with a hassle-free connecting process with third-party services? Custom Payments under the Access requirements of a Thrive Apprentice product allow you to do this.

With Custom Payments, you can link out to custom checkout pages and sales landing pages for them to access the product.

Use cases of Custom Payments

The primary use case of Custom Payment links is making it easier to redirect users to third-party payment gateways/checkouts that can be used in conjunction with webhooks or IPNs and Thrive Automator to grant or revoke access to Thrive Apprentice products.

Other use cases where you can use Custom Payment links

  • Take the buyers to a page with multiple pricing plans to choose from
  • Take buyers to a special discounts page on specific occasions
  • Take buyers to a dedicated landing page with more information about the product, subscription, etc.
  • Take buyers to a page where you can upsell, cross-sell, or promote combos for better sales.

How to Enable Custom Payments for a Thrive Apprentice Product

To enable Custom Payments as an access requirement for a Thrive Apprentice product, open your WordPress admin area, navigate to Thrive Dashboard >> Thrive Apprentice, and click on Products in the left panel.

On the Products page, select the product you want to add the requirement to.

When you open the product page, click Access Requirements in the left column.

Under Access requirements, expand the Custom payment links section by clicking on it, and enter the page URL you want to redirect users.

Once you enter the URL, click the Save button on the bottom right.

Before you obtain a payment link from a third-party tool, please ensure you’ve enabled the Buy Now button for the Thrive Apprentice product.

Enabling the Buy Now Button on a Thrive Apprentice Product

To display buttons on Thrive Apprentice products, open your WordPress admin area, navigate to Thrive Dashboard >> Thrive Apprentice, and click on Products in the left panel.

On the Products page, select the product you want to add the button to.

On the product page, click Access Restriction Rules in the left column.

Under Access restriction rules, click display buy button under the Action button display.

When you click display buy button, you’ll see a popup. In this popup, select Display buy button in the first dropdown, select the provider as Custom payment in the second dropdown, and click Save.

This example shows how to obtain a payment link in a PayPal business account.

To begin, log into your PayPal business account and click on Business Tools in the menu.

On the Business Tools page, click Integrate PayPal in the left panel.

On the Integrate PayPal page, scroll to the “PayPal Logo Center” box and click Open.

After you click Open, you’ll be taken to a page where you can create different buttons or access previously created buttons.

This section in our document will help you create a Buy Now button. Furthermore, you can access previously created buttons by clicking View your saved buttons on the top right.

When you click to view saved buttons, you’ll be taken to a page with a list of buttons you’d created. This is where you click the Open button beside the button details.

After you click Open, you’ll see more options. This is where you click View code.

When you click View code, you’ll see the generated code on the next page. You can click the Email Link tab to obtain a link.

Under the Email Link tab, click the Copy Code button to copy the link.

Once you get the link, paste it in the Custom Payment link field, as seen in this step.

We’ve just seen the idea behind having a dedicated custom payment link section, which you can find under Thrive Apprentice, and an example of obtaining a payment link from a third-party tool.

Next, if you want to create a custom checkout webpage and embed a PayPal link on it, here’s an example of adding a Buy Now button using PayPal and connecting it with Thrive Apprentice using Thrive Automator.
