Setting Up reCaptcha for Thrive Forms

Do you want to ensure you get legit lead entries through the forms on your website? You can use ReCaptcha to prevent bots from submitting the form.

Thrive Themes enables customers to use over 20 services through the API module. You can also use custom HTML integration as your preferred third-party service if you don’t find it listed.

In this document, we’ll see how you can integrate Google reCaptcha with Thrive Themes and use it in a form created using Thrive Architect.

Copying the Site and Secret Keys For Google reCaptcha.

To obtain the site and secret key for reCaptcha, first open the Google reCaptcha page here.

On the Google reCaptcha page, click v3 Admin Console, seen in the header.

On the Admin Console page, you must register a new site (add the website on which you plan to embed the reCaptcha).

While registering a site, you must fill in the applicable fields listed below.

  1. Label: This label will allow you to identify the site later if and when multiple sites are registered here.
  2. reCaptcha type: This will let you choose one of the reCaptcha versions you’d like to proceed with. This step will determine the integration steps in Thrive Themes, which are explained further in this document.
  3. Domain: This field will let you add the domain of your website.
  4. Google Cloud Platform: This allows you to select an existing project or add a new one to the Google Cloud.
  5. Terms of Service: Ticking this checkbox will mean that you agree to the terms of using Google reCaptcha on your website.
  6. Submit: This button will submit the field values you’ve entered.

After you’ve filled all the fields, tick the checkbox to agree with Google’s terms of service, and click the Submit button.

When you submit this form, you’ll find the Site key and the Secret key on the following page.

You must copy these keys while integrating Google reCaptcha with Thrive Themes. The steps are listed below.

Integrating Google reCaptcha with Thrive Themes

To integrate Thrive Themes with Google reCaptcha, open your WordPress admin area, navigate to Thrive Dashboard >> Thrive Dashboard, scroll down to API Connections, and click Manage Connections.

On the Thrive Themes Connection page, click Add New Connection.

When you click Add New Connection, you’ll see a dropdown where you need to select ReCaptcha.

Once you click reCaptcha, you’ll see a form where you’ll need to select the version of the reCaptcha you selected while setting it up in the Google admin console.

  • Connecting with Google reCaptcha v2
  • Connecting with Google reCaptcha v3

Connecting with Google reCaptcha v2

Note: Before selecting the reCaptcha version in your Thrive Themes API connection form, please ensure you’ve selected reCaptcha version 2 in the Google Admin Console.

To connect Thrive Themes with Google reCaptcha v2, select the v2 radio button in the reCaptcha API connection form and add the site and secret key you obtained from the Google Admin Console.

After you enter all the fields in the form above, click the CONNECT button.

Connecting with Google reCaptcha v3

Note: Before selecting the reCaptcha version in your Thrive Themes API connection form, please ensure you’ve selected reCaptcha version 3 in the Google Admin Console.

To connect Thrive Themes with Google reCaptcha v3, select the v3 radio button in the reCaptcha API connection form and fill in the remaining fields as follows:

  • Use browsing history to determine genuine traffic (recommended): As the name says, clicking the slider will ensure the reCaptcha uses browsing history to determine genuine traffic. This version of reCaptcha will run a script on your site to determine a certain score and thus verify the visitors. The reCaptcha scripts will run on all pages when this option is enabled. If you disable it, the reCaptcha scripts will only be available on pages containing a form (and the reCaptcha feature is enabled).
  • Reject the scores below: As mentioned above, reCaptcha v3 runs a script to determine a score between 0 and 1.0 – 0, with 0 being the highest risk and 1.0 being the lowest risk. This field lets you decide the range of scores you want to be rejected on your website. Simply drag the slider to set it to the desired value.
  • Site Key and Secret Key: You can obtain these keys from the Google Admin Console by following the steps mentioned here.

After you enter all the fields in the form above, click the CONNECT button.
