Do you want to grow your email list while keeping your audience engaged with interactive quizzes? The Opt-in Gate feature in Thrive Quiz Builder lets you collect email addresses from users before showing their quiz results, helping you build your subscriber base easily and effectively.
In this article, we’ll show you how you can use an opt-in gate in Thrive Quiz Builder to capture leads on your website.
What is an Opt-in Gate?
An opt-in gate is a form that appears at the end of a quiz. Visitors fill out this form to sign up for your newsletter, offers, or promotions.
Here’s how it works:
- First, visitors answer all the quiz questions.
- Before they can see their quiz results, the opt-in form pops up.
- Visitors can enter their email or other details to join your mailing list.
Only after submitting the form (or choosing to skip it, if you allow), visitors will see their quiz results. This helps you grow your email list while people enjoy taking your quiz.
Adding an Opt-in Gate in a Quiz
Adding an opt-in gate in a quiz is an in-between step you’ll have to add while creating a quiz using Thrive Quiz Builder.
So, to begin, first create a quiz in Thrive Quiz Builder, add questions and answers to it and create a results page.
To add an opt-in gate to a quiz, open the Quiz dashboard and click the Opt-in Gate button on the right.

When you click the opt-in gate button, you’ll see the Opt-in Gate block added in between the quiz Questions and Results page blocks.

Customizing the Opt-in Gate
To customize the opt-in gate added to the quiz, click on the Manage button on the Opt-in Gate block.

Clicking on Manage will open the opt-in gate dashboard where you’ll find different options to edit and customize it.

On the Opt-in Gate dashboard, you’ll see settings that will allow you to do the following.
- Adding an A/B Test Variation
- Skipping the Opt-in for Logged-in Users
- Creating User Profiles Using the Opt-in Information and Results
- Renaming the Opt-in Gate
- Editing the Opt-in Gate Design
- Other Options of the Opt-in Gate
Adding an A/B Test Variation
To help you get more sign-ups, the Thrive Quiz Builder plugin lets you run A/B tests. This means you can try different versions of your splash page, opt-in gate, or results page to see which one works best.
To set up an A/B test variation for an Opt-in gate, click on the Add A/B Test Variation button to create a variation.

You can read more about A/B testing an opt-in gate in our document here.
Skipping the Opt-in for Logged-in Users
Thrive Quiz Builder lets you decide whether you want to show the opt-in gate to logged-in users. You can enable or disable this by checking the box beside this option.

Creating User Profiles Using the Opt-in Information and Results
Sometimes you may want to create user profiles using the email IDs users submit through the opt-in gate and link the quiz result to it.
This can be done by enabling the Create user profiles in the reporting area by matching the answers and the result to the email address entered by the user in this step.

Renaming the Opt-in Gate
To rename an opt-in gate, on the Opt-in Gate dashboard, click the pen icon beside the opt-in gate name, type the new name you want to give it and click elsewhere in the dashboard. This will rename the opt-in gate with the new name you typed.

Editing the Opt-in Gate Design
The Opt-in Gate is just like the Lead Generation element in Thrive Architect.
To edit the Opt-in Gate, click the pen icon on the right or the message that says “This is your default content. Click here to edit the design.”

When you click to edit the opt-in gate design, you’ll see it open in the editor in a new tab.

Just like the Lead Generation element in Thrive Architect, you can edit the design, add a connection, manage after successful submission actions, etc. in the editor.
Other Options of the Opt-in Gate
The other options beside the Opt-in gate on the Opt-in gate dashboard let you clone, reset or archive it.
- Cloning the opt-in gate: Create a duplicate of the current opt-in gate.
- Reset Stats: Reset the statistics of the current opt-in gate.
- Archive: Archive the opt-in gate.
