A crucial part of the process of building themes with Thrive Theme Builder is editing the templates. Furthermore, whenever you edit a template, you also have the option of using the "Template Settings".

Editing the templates and using the “Template Settings” is important because this is how you can make the template unique and specifically suited for your posts/pages/list pages.

There are different types of templates that you can create and edit, but all of these template types can be edited in the same way and they have the same kind of "Template Settings".

This article will focus on how to edit “Post Templates”, that are meant to be applied specifically on the posts of your website. But keep in mind that the process is the same for any type of template you want to edit.

Here is how you can edit a "Post Template":

First, you have to access the Thrive Theme Builder dashboard. To do that, go to your WordPress admin dashboard, hover over the “Thrive Dashboard” item, from the left-side menu, and click on “Thrive Theme Builder”, from the sub-menu that opened:

Then, in order to see your templates, you will need to click on the "Templates" section from the left side of your Thrive Theme Builder dashboard:

By default, you have a “Standard Post Template” in the "Templates" section of your Thrive Theme Builder Dashboard, so you can edit that anytime. Also, you can add new “Post Templates” whenever you see fit and edit those as well. If you want details on how to add new “Post Templates”, check out this article.

In order to edit any of your “Post Templates”, you will have to hover over them. This way the “Edit” button will appear and all you have to do is to click on it:

This will open the editor in a new tab and you can start customizing your “Post Template”.

When the editor opens with your “Post Template”, you will see the “Post Template Settings” appear in the left sidebar. The first set of these options are the “Main Options”. These are specific template options that you can use to define a suitable layout for your “Post Template”:

As you can see, the “Main Options” are displayed based on the section of the “Post Template” you want to edit/work on. Thus, you will first have to click on the section (Header, Top, Bottom, Footer, Layout, Content, or Sidebar) you want to customize from the “Main Options”. Then, you will see the options that are specific to that part appear in the left sidebar.

For instance, if you click on the “Header” section, these are the options you will see:

Besides the “Main Options”, the “Post Template Settings” also include some general options, such as the “Background Style” or the “Borders & Corners” options, that you can use to further customize your “Post Template”:

Once you have finished defining the “Post Template Settings”, you can also use the right sidebar options to edit your “Post Template” further.

Last, but not least, while editing a template, you also have the option of previewing how that template would look like if you would apply it on different content (different pages or posts, depending on what type of template you are editing).

You can do this with the help of the "Content Drop-down", from the upper right corner of the editor. Simply click on it, to open it:

Then, select a different piece of content, from the list that appears:

Once you do that, you will see the content on the template will change to the content of the page/post you have selected from the list.
