How to Choose and Customize Quiz Templates

Starting with a template is the fastest way to build an effective quiz. In this article, you’ll learn about the three goal-oriented templates available in Thrive Quiz Builder and how to customize them for your needs.

Choosing a Template

When you click Add New in the Thrive Quiz Builder dashboard, you are presented with four options. While Build from scratch gives you a blank canvas, the other three are pre-configured to help you achieve specific business goals.

1. The List Building Template

Use this template if your primary goal is to grow your email list.

  • Pre-configured Workflow: Automatically sets up a Splash Page, Questions, an Opt-in Gate, and a Results Page.
  • Unique Feature: The Opt-in Gate is mandatory. This means users must enter their email address after finishing the questions to see their results.
  • Best for: Creating “lead magnet” quizzes where the value is in the personalized result.

2. The Social Share Template

Use this template to maximize brand awareness through viral sharing.

  • Pre-configured Workflow: Sets up a Splash Page, Questions, and a Results Page.
  • Unique Feature: The Results Page is pre-filled with Social Share Badges. These badges are designed to look great on social feeds and include a clear call to action for the user to share their outcome.
  • Best for: “Which [Character/Type] are you?” style quizzes that are fun and engaging.

3. The Gain Customer Insights Template

Use this template for market research and gathering qualitative data.

  • Pre-configured Workflow: Sets up a Splash Page, Questions, and a Results Page.
  • Unique Feature: This template omits the Opt-in Gate by default to reduce friction. It encourages the use of Open-Ended Questions and Multiple Choice answers to help you learn more about your audience’s preferences and pain points.
  • Best for: Customer feedback surveys, product preference polls, and audience segmentation.

How to Customize Your Template

Once you’ve chosen a template, you can customize every part of it:

  1. Add Your Content: Navigate to the Questions card and click Manage to swap out the placeholder questions with your own.
  2. Design the Pages: Click Manage on the Splash Page, Opt-in Gate, or Results Page cards to open the Thrive Architect editor and change the text, colors, and layout.
  3. Add Your Content: Navigate to the Questions card and click Manage to swap out the placeholder questions with your own.
  4. Design the Pages: Click Manage on the Splash Page, Opt-in Gate, or Results Page cards to open the Thrive Architect editor and change the text, colors, and layout.
  5. Adjust the Evaluation: Go to the Quiz Type card to change how the scores or categories are calculated (see our Guide to Quiz Types).
