What Are Email Delivery Services For? (Asset Delivery Feature)

Through the Thrive Dashboard, you can create connections to various email related services to use with our products. While most users will be familiar with email marketing services (a.k.a. autoresponders) such as Aweber, MailChimp, ConvertKit and ActiveCampaign, there's another category of service that is less well known: email delivery services.

​Email delivery services include mailgun, Sparkpost, Amazon SES, Sendgrid and others.

What exactly do you need email delivery services for? And why is it a required step to create a connection to one, when you're using the Asset Delivery feature in Thrive Leads?​

The Spam Email Problem

An email delivery service basically does exactly what it says on the tin: it delivers emails for you.

No matter what hosting service you use, one of the included features will be email delivery. In other words, your WordPress website can already deliver emails, via your hosting service. If you forget the password to your site and request a password reset email, that's how the email reaches you. WordPress sends it from your own hosting account.

So, why can't we just use this feature for Asset Delivery and other email sending features in Thrive Themes products?

In short, it's because of spam.

Sending an occasional password reset email is no problem, even from a low-end shared hosting account. But as soon as you're sending emails at a greater volume and especially if those emails are all the same or very similar (such as Asset Delivery emails that are all based on the same template), the sending activity starts to look suspicious.

The most likely result is that at some point, your emails will simply not reach inboxes anymore. They will be caught in spam filters and your recipients will never see them.

What's worse, you won't know this is happening. You don't get notified about something like this.

Email Delivery to the Rescue​

Email delivery services take care of this problem for you. They ensure that your emails are delivered to inboxes, no matter how many of them you send, no matter what your website is hosted with and no matter what email provider your recipients use.​

This is why we require an integration with an email delivery service for all email sending features in our products. While it means adding a few steps in the setup process, it ensures that your emails get delivered and prevents potentially costly and frustrating problems (like people signing up on your site and never receiving the opt-in offer they signed up for).

Many email delivery services have very generous free tiers, so until the point where your business is generating tens of thousands of leads on a regular basis, you don't have to worry about the cost factor.​
