Creating a New Post Template in Thrive Theme Builder

Do you want your blog posts to have a consistent and professional look across your entire website? Creating a new post template in Thrive Theme Builder allows you to easily set up a uniform design for all your posts, saving time and ensuring your content always looks polished.

In this article, we’ll show you how you can create a new post template on your website using the Thrive Theme Builder.

Accessing the Thrive Theme Builder Dashboard

To create a new post template, you’ll have to first open the Thrive Theme Builder dashboard on your website. To do so, first ensure you’ve installed and activated the Thrive Theme Builder.

Next, open your WordPress admin area, navigate to Thrive Dashboard >> Thrive Theme Builder, and click on Templates in the left column.

Adding and Setting Up a Post Template

To add a new template, on the Thrive Theme Builder’s Templates page, click the + Add New button on the top right.

Clicking to add a new template will open a popup on which you first enter the template name.

Next, you need to pick what kind of template you want to make. You have two main options: “Single” and “List.”

  • Single templates are for individual pages or posts. For example, use a single template for a blog post or an about page. Each post or page will use this layout.
  • List templates are for pages that show a group of posts or items, such as your blog feed, search results, or archive pages. This template controls how lists of posts look on your site.

In this article we are creating a Post template. So, to proceed, select Single Post type.

After you’ve selected the template type, the next step is to choose a “Content Type” for your new template. This means deciding what kind of content your template will be used for.

To see all the content type options, click the down arrow in the “Choose Content Type” section. This will show you a list of available content types, such as blog posts, pages, products, or any custom types on your website.

Here, pick the one that matches the kind of content you want your template to work with. For example, choose “Post” for blog articles or “Page” for regular website pages.

In this dropdown, select Post because you want to create a Post Template.

Once you select the Content type, you need to pick the format for your “Post Template.”

To do so, click the small down arrow in the “Choose Post Format” section to see your options.

You will see different formats you can use for your template, such as:

  • Standard (for regular posts)
  • Image (for posts that focus on images)
  • Video (for posts with videos)
  • Audio (for posts with audio files)

In this dropdown, click the format you want, and it will be selected for your template. For example, if you pick “Standard,” your template will work with standard posts.

Now, you can decide how you want to build your template’s design.

  • Start from Scratch: When you select to start from scratch, you can create the design all by yourself, starting with a blank template. This means you have total control and can customize everything exactly how you want.
  • Choose a Template: If you want to save time, you can pick a design from the template library.

While starting from scratch will add a template directly on the Thrive Theme Builder’s Template page, clicking the Choose Template button will open a popup with the template you can choose from.

In this library, you’ll see lots of different templates. Here, you can use the filters on the left side of the screen to easily browse designs that fit your needs.

On this popup, click on the template you want to use and click the Create Template button.

After clicking to create the template, you’ll see it added on the Templates page in Thrive Theme Builder.

Once added, hover on the newly added template and click Edit.

Clicking Edit will open the template in the Thrive Theme Builder editor. This is where you can further edit the template as you want.

We’ve just seen how you can add a new Post Template on your website using Thrive Theme Builder. You can take a visual tour of the process in the video below.
