Creating a New Post Template in Thrive Theme Builder

“Post Templates” are an essential part of building themes with Thrive Theme Builder. These are the templates that you can build to be suitable for the posts of your website.

When you start using Thrive Theme Builder a default “Post Template” will be available for you, but you can add new “Post Templates” whenever this is necessary. Follow the steps below to find out how to do this:

Access the Thrive Theme Builder dashboard

Adding a new “Post Template” can be done easily from your Thrive Theme Builder dashboard. In order to access it, go to your WordPress admin dashboard, hover over the “Thrive Dashboard” item, from the left-side menu, and click on “Thrive Theme Builder”, from the sub-menu that opened:

Then, click on the “Templates” section, from the left side of the Thrive Theme Builder dashboard, to open it and see your templates:

Add & set up the Post Template

Once your Thrive Theme Builder dashboard is opened, click on the “Add New” button in the “Your Theme Templates” section:

This will open the pop-up window where you can set up what kind of “Post Template” you would like and then add it to your dashboard:

There are a couple of things you will need to select/set here, before adding the template:

Name

First, you have to name your “Post Template”. Write in the name you want to give to the new template, in the field from the “New Template Name” section of the pop-up:

Type

Next, you have to choose the type of template you would like to create. You can choose between “Single” (Single Content Templates) or List (List templates). “Single” templates are used on individual posts/pages, while “List” templates will be used to display list pages like search results, blog feed, archives, etc.

Since you want to create a “Post Template”, you should select the “Single” option here:

Content Type

The next step is to select a “Content Type” that you want the new template to be. In order to see every available “Content Type”, you can click on the down arrow from the “Choose Content Type” section:

This will open the drop-down with the “Content Types”. Choose “Post”, because you want to add a “Post Template”:

Post Format

Next, you will have to select the format you want your “Post Template” to be. Click on the little down arrow from the “Choose Post Format” section:

This will open the drop-down with the available formats you can choose from for your new template. You can choose to create a “Post Template” that has a “Standard”, an “Image”, a “Video” or an ”Audio” format.

Simply click on the one you would like to use and it will be selected. In this example, we will go with the “Standard” format:

Note: Keep in mind that the format of your template here will have to match the format of the posts you will want to apply the template to, later on. In this sense:

  • If you choose to create “Post Template” with a “Standard” format, then, once you customize that template, you will be able to apply it to the Standard Posts of your website.

  • If you choose to create a “Post Template” with the “Image” format, you will be able to apply this template to the Image Posts from your website.

  • If you select the “Post Template” to have the “Video” format, then you will be able to apply this template to the Video Posts from your website.

  • If you choose the “Post Template” to have the “Audio” format, you will be able to apply this template to the Audio Posts from your website.

Start from Scratch

You can proceed next with deciding whether you want to build the design for this template from scratch and customize it entirely by yourself:

Choose Template

You can also access the templates library, by clicking on the “Choose Template” button:

Selecting this option will open the library with all the available templates:

Use the filtering options from the left-hand side of the screen to browse through all the available designs:

When you are done with customizing the design of the template, you will be able to

see the newly created template in your dashboard:

After you have added the new “Post Template”, you can start editing it, using the steps from this article, in order to make it suitable for your purposes.
