“List Templates” are an important part of creating a theme with Thrive Theme Builder because these are the templates that you customize to be suitable for your list pages, such as your blog feed or your search results page.
When you start using Thrive Theme Builder you will have two “List Pages” (Blog, All Archives) already in your dashboard, that you can customize anytime. Nevertheless, you can also add new “List Templates” whenever you need to, following the steps below:
Access the Thrive Theme Builder dashboard
First, you will need to access your Thrive Theme Builder dashboard. To do that, go to your WordPress admin dashboard, hover over the “Thrive Dashboard” item from the left side menu, and click on “Thrive Theme Builder” from the sub-menu that opened:
Once you have reached the Thrive Theme Builder dashboard, you will need to open the “Templates” section from its left side by clicking on it:
Add & set up the new List Template
The next step is to click on the “Add New” button from the “Your Theme Templates” part of the “Templates” section:
This will open a pop-up window where you can add the new “List Template”:
Before adding the new template you will have to set up/define a few aspects of it in this pop-up.
Name
First, you will have to give a name for your new template. Enter the name for your new “List Template” in the “New Template Name” field of the pop-up:
Type
Next, you will have to choose the type of your new template. You can choose between the “Single” type (for individual pages and posts) and the “List” type (for list pages). Since you want to create a new “List Template”, you should click on the “List” type here, to select it:
List Type
The next step is to select what type of “List Template” you want to create. Click on the down arrow from the “List Type” section of the pop-up:
This will open a little drop-down with the three list types that you can choose from: Post Types, Archives, Search. Select the list type you want, based on what kind of page you will want to apply your new “List Template” to:
Archive Type
If you have chosen “Post Types” or “Archives”, then another section will appear, the “Archive Type” section. Here you can choose what type of “Archive” or “Post List Template” you want to create.
Click on the down arrow from the “Archive Type” section:
This will open the drop-down with the types you can choose from. If you have selected “Post Types” at the previous step, then you can choose between “All Post Types” and simple “Post”, whereas if you have previously chosen “Archives” then you can choose between “All Archives”, or separate type of archives (like Authors, Categories, Tags, etc.):
Simply click on the “Post Type” or the “Archive Type” you want your new “List Template” to have from the ones available.
Start from Scratch
You can proceed next with deciding whether you want to build the design for this template from scratch and customize it entirely by yourself:
Choose Template
Or if you want to pick a template from the template library:
Selecting this option will open the library with all the available templates:
Use the filtering options from the left-hand side of the screen to browse through all the available designs:
When you are done with customizing the design of the template, you will be able to see the new “List Template” in your dashboard:
After you have added the new “List Template” you can start editing it, in order to make it suitable for the list page(s) you will want to apply it to. If you need details on how to edit the template, check out this article.
