Would you like your opt-in form to appear at exactly the right moment, in exactly the right place, for each visitor? Thrive Leads splits that control into two levels: Lead Group conditions decide where your forms are eligible to show at all, and each form’s own Display Rules decide when, how often, and how it appears once it’s eligible.
Display Rules replaces the older display-settings panel and also absorbs what used to be a separate Triggers panel. If you are looking for trigger options such as showing a form on page load, you will find them here now.
Lead Group Conditions (the “Where”)
Before a form’s own Display Rules even get evaluated, its Lead Group has to be eligible to show on the current page at all.
- Go to Thrive Leads » My Forms and click Group conditions on the Lead Group row.
- Use the Include and Exclude tabs to choose which posts, pages, categories, and post types the group’s forms are allowed to appear on.

Opening a Form’s Display Rules
- From any form in My Forms, open the form.
- Select the Display Rules tab.
The rules available depend on the form’s type. The example below shows the rules for an In-Content form.
Choosing When the Form Appears
- In the When section, choose Show on page load to make the form visible as soon as the page loads, or choose Show when in viewport to have the form appear only once the visitor scrolls down to it.
The When section looks different for overlay-style forms like Ribbon, Popup, Fullscreen, and Slide In. Instead of the two radio options above, these show three toggles you can switch between: Time Delay (immediately on page load, or a custom delay in seconds), Scroll Distance (a percentage down the page), and Bottom of the page. Popup forms also replace the Position section below with an Animation setting (Zoom In, and other entrance animations) instead of a fixed position.
Controlling How Often the Form Reappears
- For overlay-style forms, use the Display Frequency dropdown to control how often a visitor who has already dismissed the form will see it again: All the time, Once a day, or After some days.
In-Content forms do not have a Display Frequency setting, since they display inline with your content rather than reappearing as an overlay.
Setting the Form’s Position
- In the Position section, use the Display after paragraphs dropdown to choose whether the form appears after a set number of paragraphs (In-Content forms), or choose Top over content, Top, or Bottom (Ribbon forms).
- For In-Content forms, use the number field beside the dropdown to set exactly how many paragraphs.
Choosing Device Visibility
- In the Device Visibility section, check or uncheck Desktop and Mobile to match how you want the form to display across device types.
Saving Your Display Rules
- Once your rules look correct, click Save Display Rules at the top of the panel.
If you have already built a rule set you like on another form, click Import Display Rules instead of rebuilding it from scratch. To start over completely, use Reset All.
A Note on Post Footer and In-Content Forms
Post Footer is still its own separate option when you create a new form — it was never merged into In-Content. The two form types do share the same set of design templates in the styling step, which is why they can look similar when you’re picking a design, but they remain distinct, separately configurable form types.
Display Rules for ThriveBoxes
ThriveBoxes work a little differently here. Since a ThriveBox only ever appears when a visitor clicks its trigger link or button, it doesn’t get the full Display Rules set described above — there’s no When, Display Frequency, or Position setting to configure. The only display-related option a ThriveBox has is its Animation Settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do all form types show the same display rules?
No. In-Content forms show a simple When (page load or in-viewport) and a paragraph-based Position rule. Overlay-style forms like Ribbon, Popup, Fullscreen, and Slide In show a Time Delay/Scroll Distance/Bottom-of-page When section and a Display Frequency setting instead, and Popup forms show an Animation setting in place of Position.
Can I reuse the same display rules across multiple forms?
Yes. Use Import Display Rules on a new form to bring in a rule set you already saved on another form, instead of setting each rule again by hand.
