Updating a Thrive Themes Plugin or Theme

As we often release new and improved versions for our plugins, we have created this article to show you how to quickly update your plugins/themes, so that you can always benefit from the latest versions of the products.

Note: Before updating any plugin or theme (whether that is a Thrive Theme or a different one), please make sure to backup your website.

If you are not sure how to do this, you can check out this article we have created, which is a step-by-step guide on how to backup your website.

Update a Thrive Themes Plugin

If you are looking for a way to update a Thrive Themes plugin (Thrive Architect/ Thrive Leads, etc ), here is what you have to do:

In your WordPress admin dashboard, in the left sidebar, click on “Plugins”:

Right off the bat, you will notice that, if there are any available updates for the plugins installed on your site, they will be signaled with this red circle:

In the example above, I am notified that there are 9 plugins for which updates are available.

Once the “Plugins” section is accessed, you will see a list with all of the plugins that are installed on your site, even if they are not activated.

Scroll down to get to the Thrive Themes plugins:

The plugins that have an available update will have a notification underneath, as shown here:

Click on the linked “Update now” part of the notification to update the plugin:

If the notification is not there, you can make sure your plugin is up-to-date, by clicking on the “Check for updates” option, below the description of the plugin:

Then, if a new version is available, a message about it will appear in the upper part of the page. The “Update Now” text will appear, and you will be able to click on it and update the plugin, as advised above.

In the case that there is no newer version for the plugin, you will see a message letting you know that the plugin is up-to-date.

Note: In some instances, you may want to update the plugin manually. For example, if your blog is configured so that automatic updates don’t work. In this case, you can either:

  1. Go to your plugins dashboard, delete the plugin and re-upload it.

  2. Log in through FTP, delete the existing plugin folder (if it exists) and upload the new folder to the /wp-content/plugins directory.

This is how you can update a Thrive Themes plugin.

Update Thrive Theme Builder

Going forward, you can also update a Thrive Theme Builder theme. If you want to do this, go to your WordPress admin dashboard.

From the left sidebar, hover over “Appearance” and click on “Themes”:

In the list of themes that opens, look for the “Thrive Theme Builder” card:

Note: This will be the first card from the list if the theme that is active on your site is a Thrive Theme Builder theme.

As you can see, in case there is an available update, you will see an info note on the top side of the card.

To update Thrive Theme Builder, click on the “Update Now” linked text:

When the update is complete, a success notification will show:

Update a Legacy Theme

The way to update one of the legacy themes is the same as updating a Thrive Theme Builder theme.

Go to “Appearance” -> “Themes”, and look for the theme that you want to update. If there is an available update, you will see the information note:

Naturally, to update the theme, click on “Update now”:

How to make sure that the plugin/theme is running on the latest version

Of course, in order to make sure that the plugin is running on its latest version, you first have to know which version of the plugin is currently installed on your site.

  • Which version of the plugins are you using?

In order to see exactly what version of a plugin you currently have, you can go to the “Plugins” section.

In the list of the available plugins, you will have some information about each one, and this includes the plugin version as well:

  • How do you know which is the latest version?

It might happen that the plugin has a newer version available, that you are not aware of. For this, you can check out the Thrive Themes Changelog, to see which are the latest versions for our products.

  • The current plugin version is not the same as the one from the changelog.

In this case, you can use the “Check for updates” option of each plugin, described earlier in this article.

However, if the plugin has a newer version available, but the “Update now” option still won’t show, you can double-check with your hosting provider and make sure that the communication to the server is not faulted in any way.

You can use this article as a reference and follow all of the steps presented there. If the problem still persists, we recommend that you open a support conversation, and our team will gladly help you fix the issue.
