How many upsells should I add to my checkout?

Although you can add multiple upsells to your checkout, there are diminishing returns when you add more than one.

So make sure to add at least one order bump and upsell offer before doing the lower return work of adding multiple upsell offers.

What checkout cart tool should I use to add Order Bumps and Upsells to my checkout?

These days, most checkout cart tools offer Order Bump and Upsell features. None of them are perfect, but most of them can be made to work to deploy these revenue boosting features.

If you're already using a checkout cart tool to sell your online course, search that tools documentation to find out how you can add these features to your checkout. It might be as simple as checking a box or switching a toggle button to activate them!

What's the difference between an Order Bump and an Upsell?

The difference between the two is discussed in detail during John's masterclass, but simply put:

Order Bumps are tick-box add-on product offers that appear on a product checkout page. If a customer checks the tick-box, the order bump product is added to their purchase.

Upsells are product offers that customers are redirected to after completing their main purchase. If the customer chooses to buy the upsell, they are charged a second time via the previous card data they entered for the main purchase.

If they choose not to buy the upsell (by either clicking the "not interested" option or closing the browser window), the main product purchase has still been made and is thus unaffected by the secondary upsell purchase decision.

Offering upsells make me nervous as my Post-Purchase Thank You / Confirmation Page includes important info for the customer to access their course. How do I make sure customers get the info they need if I add an Upsell offer?

Although you should definitely redirect customers to post-purchase Thank You / Confirmation Page after the Upsell offer converts or not, make sure you have a post-purchase automated email system in place to deliver the critical info your customers need to access their product(s) after purchase.

That way, even if a customer closes their browser window on the Upsell offer page, they'll still receive their main product post-purchase info.
