Before you get started, make sure Thrive Product Manager is installed, activated, and connected to your Thrive Themes account.
Managing Licenses From the Dashboard
The License Selection screen opens on its own right after you connect a website to your Thrive Themes account. You can return to it at any time to change your choice.
If your website was already connected before you updated Thrive Product Manager and its license is still valid, it goes straight to the product dashboard instead. Your current license stays in use. You can change it from the dashboard at any time.
To do that, go to Product Manager in your WordPress admin sidebar. Under the “Which products would you like to install on this site?” heading, the “Licenses in use on this site” line lists the licenses this website uses. Next to it, click Manage licenses.

You can also click the gear icon in the green Thrive Product Manager header. It opens the same screen.

Either way, the License Selection screen opens with your current choice already in place.
Reading the License List
The License Selection screen lists every license in your Thrive Themes account that unlocks at least one product. Each row shows:
- License name: the product or bundle the license is for, followed by its license number.
- Renew date: the date the license renews, or “Lifetime” for a license that never expires.
- Site activation: how many websites use the license out of the number it allows, for example “2/5”.
- Status: Active (ready to use), Inactive (turned off for this site in your account), or Expired.
Active licenses are listed first. Inactive and expired licenses come last. Their checkboxes are greyed out because you can’t use them on a site until you reactivate or renew them.
Choosing Licenses for Your Site
To use a license on this website, click the checkbox next to it.

You can tick more than one license when each one adds products the others don’t include. For example, a Thrive Architect license and a Thrive Leads license can both be used on the same site.
When you first connect a website, nothing is ticked yet. When you come back later, the licenses the site already uses are ticked for you.
What Happens When Licenses Overlap?
A website only needs 1 license for each product. When a license you tick already includes the products of another license, Thrive Product Manager unticks the extra license and greys it out. This keeps that license’s activation free for your other websites.
For example, if you tick Thrive Architect and then tick Thrive Suite, the Thrive Architect license gets an “Included in Suite” label. A message at the bottom of the screen confirms how many licenses stay free.

To read why a license is greyed out, hover over the info icon in its label.
Swapping a Spare License
If you own 2 licenses for the same product, the one you didn’t pick gets a “Spare” label. You can use the spare one on this website instead, for instance to keep a lifetime license free for another site.
To switch them, hover over the info icon in the “Spare” label. In the tooltip, click Swap licenses.

The spare license is now ticked for this site. The one you picked before becomes the spare.
The Swap licenses button only appears when the swap keeps every product on this site covered.
Using Licenses for Retired Products
Some older Thrive products are no longer sold or updated. Licenses for these retired products still appear in the list with an info icon next to their name. To read the details, hover over the icon.

You can still tick a retired product’s license and use the product on this website. It just won’t receive updates. When Thrive Suite is ticked, a retired product’s license is labeled “Included in Suite” like any other single-product license.
Renewing an Expired License
An expired license shows an “Expired” status and can’t be ticked. To renew it, click Renew at the end of its row.

The renewal checkout for that license opens in a new browser tab on thrivethemes.com. After you renew, come back and refresh your licenses so you can tick it.
Reactivating an Inactive License
A license shows an “Inactive” status when it has been deactivated for this website from your Thrive Themes account. To turn it back on, click Reactivate at the end of its row.

The license’s site list opens in your Thrive Themes account in a new tab. After you reactivate it there, come back and refresh your licenses so you can tick it.
You can learn more about managing those sites in our guide on activating or deactivating a Thrive Themes license on your website.
Refreshing Your Licenses
The list doesn’t update on its own when you buy, renew, or reactivate a license on thrivethemes.com. To load the latest licenses and statuses from your account, click Refresh licenses in the top right corner.

The screen reloads with your latest licenses, renew dates, and statuses.
Saving Your Choice
Once the licenses you want are ticked, click Continue below the list.

Thrive Product Manager adds this website to each ticked license in your Thrive Themes account and takes you to the product dashboard. If you unticked a license this site used before, that license’s activation is freed up for your other websites.
On the dashboard, every product your licenses include is ready to install or use. Products that none of your selected licenses include show “Needs a license”.

That’s it! You now know how to choose which licenses each of your websites uses. Next, take a look at our guide on installing Thrive plugins with the Product Manager to install the products your licenses include.
Frequently Asked Questions
Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about choosing licenses in Thrive Product Manager.
Why is the Continue button greyed out?
You need to tick at least one active license before you can continue. If none of your licenses can be used on this site right now, the screen shows a “Go to the product dashboard” link instead. Use it to reach your products while you renew or reactivate a license.
Why doesn’t one of my licenses appear in the list?
The list only shows licenses that unlock at least one product. If you bought or renewed a license a moment ago, click Refresh licenses to load it.
What happens if a license has no site activations left?
When you click Continue, your Thrive Themes account can’t add this website to a license that’s already at its site limit. A message tells you which license wasn’t added. Your other ticked licenses are still saved. To use it here, deactivate the license on a site you no longer use from your Thrive Themes account. Our license activation guide walks you through it. Then refresh your licenses and try again.
What happens to my website when a license it uses expires?
Your website stays connected to your account. The next time you open Thrive Product Manager, the License Selection screen opens with that license marked as Expired. From there, renew it or pick another license.
How do I stop using every license on a website?
You always need to keep at least one license ticked on the License Selection screen. To free up every license a website uses, deactivate the Thrive Product Manager plugin on that site. You can also deactivate the site from your Thrive Themes account. Our license activation guide covers both options.
