Thrive Themes Now Feature Content Builder Page Templates!

In everything we do at Thrive Themes, we always give high priority to speed and convenience. We know that a feature left unused - because it's too time consuming or complicated - is no better than not having that feature at all.

That's what the previous post was about and it's also what today's theme update is about. Watch the video for a quick tour of this much-requested feature:

  • Hendrik V says:

Shane, does all this additional code etc slow up the site’s performance vs getting some to just code it from a mockup using plain html/CSS?

Is that a trade off we get with being able to do it ourselves?

    • Shane Melaugh says:

The addition of these templates has zero impact on your site’s overall performance.

Sure, a plain HTML page will always load faster than a WordPress page (or any other page that involves a database), but that’s a tradeoff that A) has nothing to do with the Content Builder or our themes and B) is necessary for things like widgets, related posts, blogs, archives, site search etc. to work.

Within the possibilities of WordPress, we do everything we can to keep things as lean and fast as possible.

If you compare a page generator template that is made only with short codes to one that is made TCB editable, there will be an additional CSS file to load for the TCB one, but again: we keep this file as lean as possible so that the impact on loading speed is negligible.

      • Hendrik V says:

Thanks Shane, I’m building the new version of my website with a Thrive theme and TCB, and loving the process, and I especially like those page elements.

I started the rebuild with Genesis, tried the Divi theme and end up here…much simpler

      • Shane Melaugh says:

I’m very happy to hear that you end up preferring our theme over others. It means we’re doing our job. :)

  • Karim says:

    Great update!

Would it be possible if I use it with TCB only with some other themes and remove the theme dependent elements?

    • Shane Melaugh says:

Theoretically, yes. We could create some layouts that would be usable for any theme, but I think the end result would rarely be very good. The problem is that different themes can be hugely different from each other in terms of dimensions, colors etc. If we build a template that looks good in one theme, it will probably look horrible in thousands of other themes.

The way I see it, I would rather only offer this feature for our own themes, where we know for certain that the layouts work and look good, rather than create something generic that will look mediocre or awful on many sites.

  • OK so now I can site building faster! I am so happy this feature is there now! I was having such a tough time trying to make my site look like the theme.

    • Shane Melaugh says:

Thanks, Katerina! This feature has been a long time coming, I have to admit. But I’m happy we finally got it done and released.

  • Corrado I says:

  • Hello Shane,

Recently I gave you a comment about the downside of so many templates and template systems we see online and you responded by adding that in general you agreed but your intention was to break the template mold.

    You have done it!

Congratulations. The Content Builder Page Templates provide a matrix for the future of template design and usage. In fact Thrive users can now design their own templates based on what you have provided.

Thank you, Shane and your team.

    Best regards,

    Peter Kershaw.

    • Shane Melaugh says:

Thank you for the follow-up comment, Peter! We’ve got many other improvements like this yet to come.

  • Keith H says:

More good stuff. Thanks Shane and Paul.

    • Shane Melaugh says:

      Thanks, Keith!
