How to Build a WooCommerce Store from Scratch Using Thrive Theme Builder

In this lesson, we'll show you how to create product categories and add products to your shop.

In WordPress under the "Products" side menu tab, click "Categories" then ...

To add a new category:

  1. Under the "Add New Category" section, give your category a name (e.g. "Apparel")
  2. The "Slug" will automatically create itself, or you can specify a specific slug if necessary
  3. Click the "Add new category" button at the bottom of the website

To add a subcategory:

  1. Create a subcategory (eg: "T-Shirts") by filling in the "Name" section
  2. The "Slug" will automatically fill in
  3. Click the "Parent category" dropdown menu and select the appropriate parent category
  4. Click "Add new category"

Repeat steps 1 - 8 in order to create categories & subcategories as needed.

Next up, we'll show you how to add some products to the shop:

  1. In WordPress under the "Products" side menu tab, click "Add New"
  2. Paste in the name of your product below the "Add New Product" / inside the "Product Name" bar
  3. Copy & paste the product information / description in the large blank box under the "Launch Thrive Architect" button
  4. Scroll down to "Product data" and fill in a "Regular price"
Optional: If you're selling a downloadable product, then check the "Downloadable" box and fill in the information below it
  1. Scroll down to "Product short description" and enter in (copy & paste) quick details about a product

Moving on to the right-hand sidebar, let's look at the "Theme Builder Templates" dropdown menu. You may remember having chosen a specific layout for a single product in the Thrive Theme Builder "Site Wizard". By leaving the selection on "Default", the current product will use the layout chosen in Thrive Theme Builder. However, if you like, you may choose a different layout just for this specific item.

Next, let's look at the "Theme Builder Visibility" menu. This is where you'll get to choose whether to "show" or "hide" certain sections of the page.

Moving on, let's look at "Product categories". Here, choose the category inside which you'll want your products displayed.

Under "Product tag", enter any tags you would like associated with the product.

The "Product image" is the image shown when the item is listed in the shop.

Finally, you can add images to the "Product gallery", which will be displayed on the page for the specific product.

Good job! Go ahead and add the rest of your products.
