In the latest version of Thrive Leads, we've added a much requested new API integration. The service we've connected to is ConvertKit, an email marketing solution aimed at bloggers.
In this post, you'll find a quick tutorial on how to set up the ConvertKit API connection as well as a few details about this service.

Watch this video for a very quick walkthrough of how you can set up the connection. As you'll see, it's surprisingly easy to do:
What ConvertKit is All About
ConvertKit is a relatively new player in the email marketing scene and so we were surprised at the number of requests we got, asking for this integration. Here's what Nathan, the founder of ConvertKit had to say about it:
Nathan Barry
Founder
"Unlike other email marketing solutions, ConvertKit is designed from the ground up for professional bloggers. You can think of it as getting the power of Infusionsoft with the simplicity and ease-of-use of MailChimp.
We're excited about this integration because with Thrive Leads our customers can get more powerful opt-in forms, more flexibility, and a range of designs to use for their email opt-ins."
Personally, I'm a big believer in making highly specific offers, so I love seeing an email marketing service with such a clearly defined target audience.

Shane – what template is that “just one more step” pop up, in the example?
Hi Dean,
That’s one of the multi-step templates that you can choose when creating a lightbox form.
Killer Combo! I’ve been using ConvertKit for a few weeks now, and I’m very impressed. Their app is so easy to use. And I can get stuff rigged super fast — way faster than any other app I’ve used! Plus, their customer support team are real humans who understand marketing — that’s a HUGE PLUS!!!! Thanks as always Shane for bringing the rain 🙂
Thank you, Will!
I tried Convertkit earlier this year and the reason I dumped it was because of challenges around getting Convertkit and Thrive Leads / Pages to be friends.
This is really exciting and is causing me to seriously consider switching back.
Thanks for creating such a killer product, Shane.
I love how you guys keep listening to your people and growing Thrive to be better and better!
Thank you for your comment, Jarrett! Glad we could serve you with this new integration!
Hey Jarrett,
We’d love to have you back!
This is awesome. I’m so glad this integration has finally arrived. I excited to get started because ConvertKit is great and very easy to use.
Glad to know this is a useful addition for you, Michael!
Dang Shane, you’ve done it again! I just found out you connect with Mad Mimi (don’t know when you added that and don’t know how I missed it!) and now I’ve “got” to research ConvertKit for a client. I’ve been a rapid Mad Mimi fan for ages, still am, AND always want to keep an eye out for what’s new and how it works. Thanks for adding MM and for sharing this tutorial.
We added MadMimi very recently. Just haven’t had a chance to post about it yet. 🙂
Hi Shane,
I really find thrive leads a wonderful list building plugin, and i’m willing to buy it but there is a big issue in between.
In Italy (i’m italian by the way) the laws for the online privacy are getting stricter and now they’re asking to the marketers and site owners to put an unchecked checkbox for the privacy on every single optin.
This checkbox must be checked by the user otherwise he won’t be able to subscribe to the newsletter/list.
Is there a chance to see this feature inserted in thrive leads? Otherwise it will be totally illegal to use it in Italy and sites owned by italian people like me.
Best Regards,
Umberto
Hello Umberto,
Right now, the solution you can use is through the HTML form integration method. If your HTML form has this check box, then it will also appear in Thrive Leads.
We’ve used a lot of different autoresponders through the years. Like most people, we started with AWeber, and have tried several others too, like Mailchimp. Long story short, I wanted to move us into Infusion Soft for the sophisticated segmentation you can do with it, but the price is daunting. Shane, since so many of your products and recommendations have been spot-on, I’m sold. We just got a ConvertKit account — even though I have access to 60 days free with Aweber. It looks great and I trust your endorsement. Thanks 😉 I’ll let you know how it goes with our new test campaign — which we’ll do with Thrive Themes and landing pages connected to Convertkit.
Ok, I’ve been inside ConvertKit now for a bit, setting up a first test campaign. Holy cow is it better than Aweber! Much easier to use and a lot more powerful. I love the tags, ease of automation, segmentation lists. Thanks for the rec, Shane!
I just heard about this great software listening to Pat Flynn’s podcast. I’m so tired of aweber so this is prefect timing. Since we’re connecting via thrive lead’s api interface, do we still get all the functionality that convert kit offers such as the tracking of referral pages, tagging, etc. I just wanted to know if we lose anything by setting up our forms using thrive leads vs convert kit’s forms directly?
Same here Eddy, but also wondering what the main benefits of ConvertKit over Active Campaign are?
I would like to know the answer to Eddy’s inquiry “Since we’re connecting via thrive lead’s api interface, do we still get all the functionality that convert kit offers such as the tracking of referral pages, tagging, etc. I just wanted to know if we lose anything by setting up our forms using thrive leads vs convert kit’s forms directly?”
Hi Ben,
Yes you do. Thrive Leads allows you to easily create the opt-in forms and simply sends the information to Convert Kit via the API. This does not interfere with the other functionalities.
Thank you
I don’t have “API Connections” options?
OK sorry I figured it out. 🙂
Hi, I’m trying to connect my Lead form to a CK form, but I just don’t see a dropdown menu anywhere with my CK form options. My backend doesn’t look the same as it does in the above tutorial video. Can you help me?
Hello Carla,
I apologize, the video in this post was outdated. We had a new tutorial already, but we didn’t replace the video in this post. I’ve updated it now and the tutorial shows the steps as they happen with the updated tools. 🙂
Hi Shane! Love Thrive, and I’m thinking about switching from AC to CK. Does the integration support tagging in CK?
Hello Bill,
Personally, I don’t recommend that move. This post explains why.
Having said that, we do support tagsin ConvertKit, yes.
I recently started using thrive theme instead of elementor and in elementor I can include a convertkit form on the site, however, it’s not clear how I can do the same in thrive theme.
Hi,
You can see exactly how to do that here: https://help.thrivethemes.com/en/articles/4425556-connecting-to-the-convertkit-api
